VIERA, Fla. -- A jury watched a taped interview of a man who was shot in the face use sign language to identify the person who allegedly pulled the trigger during a trial in Brevard County, Fla., Monday.
Kelvis Smith was unable to talk after he was shot in the face in June of 2002.
However, a videotape played for jurors showed Smith spelling out the name of the man he says shot him and murdered his pregnant girlfriend in Brevard County.
"Are you trying to tell me who shot your girlfriend?" a woman on the videotape said.
"Yes," Smith signed with his hand.
"Was it any of the guys in the pictures?" the woman asked.
"Yes," Smith signed.
"First picture or second picture?" the woman asked.
"Second picture," Smith signed.
Smith, who has recovered from the 2002 shooting, was able to take the stand Monday and identify the man, Willie Nowell, again.
Nowell is one of two people accused in the shootings.
He faces the death penalty if convicted.
Prosecutors said the shooting was done out of revenge, Local 6 News reported.
The trial continues Tuesday.
