Scientists: Men May Be Able To Give Birth In Future

POSTED: Monday, October 17, 2005
UPDATED: 5:15 pm EDT October 17, 2005

Some scientists now believe that men may be able to give birth in the future if injected with enough female hormones to sustain pregnancy, according to a Local 6 News report.

Recently, a Canadian woman delivered a healthy baby girl that grew outside her uterus. The egg fell into her abdominal cavity, where the placenta and baby developed normally.

The placenta that feeds the baby implanted on the outside of the uterus, according to the report.

The infant was delivered by Cesarean section.

Lia Tharby was the mother involved in the rare extrauterine pregnancy in London, Ont., according to a report.

There have only been a handful of other similar pregnancies ever reported.
