Motorcyclist Gets 30 Years In Death Of Trooper

A man convicted in the death of a Florida Highway trooper during a chase down Interstate 4 received a sentence of 30 years in prison Friday, according to Local 6 News.

Prosecutors said Donald Williams, 39 was racing a Porsche car down I-4 about a year ago when trooper Daryl Haywood noticed the cars speeding.

While Haywood was trying to stop Williams, he blew a tire, lost control of his cruiser and was killed in a crash.

During the trial this week, Williams said he never saw Haywood behind his motorcycle, so could not be held responsible for the crash.

Friday, Williams offered condolences to the Haywood family, but never acknowledged speeding his motorcycle down I-4, Local 6 reporter Mike DeForest said.

Just before the judge sentenced Williams, Haywood's wife requested a severe punishment.

"You have left numerous victims in your wake," Haywood's wife Linda said. "You have taken away my life partner. The void that exists is an extremely painful one. Our hearts are broken and nothing will mend them."

Williams said he hopes Haywood's family will not be mad at him and can put the incident behind them.
