10-Year-Old Boy, Girl, 13, Accused Of Central Fla. Crime Spree

A 10-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were charged with felony burglary and grand theft after confessing to going on a crime spree in Central Florida, according to Titusville police investigators.

The pair, possibly with the help of another boy, stole a golf cart, broke into garages, sheds and a home, opening Christmas gifts and taking jewelry, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.

The three then stole a $14,000 Toyota Sierra van, according to the report.

The boy and girl, who were not named because of their ages, confessed to the spree, officials told Florida Today.

"It started to unravel when the girl's mother came home and found some of the merchandise," said Warren Van Vuren, spokesman for the Titusville Police Department. "She started questioning the girl about it."

Police talked to the girl and later found the boy -- believed to be a runaway -- at an apartment near the DeLeon Street area.

Both were turned over to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Most of the stolen items were recovered, officials said.

"It makes you wonder why they would go out and do this. They should be out being kids, playing games and enjoying sports, not committing crime," Van Vuren said. "Now they're in the judicial system. It's obviously something tragic."
