5th straight day of rain soaks Central Florida

Rain chances stand at 70 percent Friday in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla.Soaking rains drenched Central Florida for a fifth straight day, and the wet weather is expected to continue into the weekend.

Flood watches and warnings were issued for much of Central Florida on Friday, as rain is expected to continue throughout the evening.

Meanwhile, several crashes plagued the highways in Brevard County Friday night as the rain continued to fall. A tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 95, backing up traffic through rush hour.

Brevard County Sheriff's Office said 25 people were involved in the crashes with nine requiring hospital care, but no fatalities.

There's a 50 percent chance of rain Saturday, and temperatures will top off in the mid-80s. Overnight lows into Saturday morning will be in the upper 60s.

Cape Canaveral received nearly 4 inches of rain since Thursday morning, while Orlando International Airport recorded 1.65 inches, a record for May 2.  Orlando Executive Airport had just over 3 inches of rain.

Minor street flooding was reported in some areas, but no major damage was reported.  A 70 foot tree was toppled on Ocean Drive in Apopka, damaging the roof of a home and crushing a fence.  No one was injured, however.

Rain chances drop to 30 percent on Sunday and diminish even further next week.

"Finally, we'll be able to dry out a little bit," Bridges said.

Meanwhile, severe weather struck South Florida on Thursday.

The National Weather Service says a tornado cut a half-mile path of damage near the Florida Atlantic University campus in Boca Raton.  The twister took down fences, trees, a store sign, power lines and parts of a roof.
