FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- At least two men armed with baseball bats or sticks beat three homeless men at separate locations early Thursday, killing one, police said. One attack was caught on a university surveillance video.
Norris Gaynor, 45, died from his injuries at Broward General Medical Center, police said. The two other homeless men were listed in serious condition at the hospital. They were not identified.
The attacks occurred before dawn and involved two to four young white males, police said. The attacks occurred at or near the Florida Atlantic University building, the Broward Center for Performing Arts and a church.
Police released the video, which showed two men beating one homeless man with what appear to be bats. The victim survived the attack. Police said the attacks may be related but they are not yet sure.
"It is a terrible thing that happened and they will be punished accordingly," police Detective Kathy Collins told the
South Florida Sun-Sentinel. She said Gaynor's death will bring homicide charges against the attackers.
Collins did not return a phone message left by The Associated Press.
