A woman fatally shot her sleeping husband, ransacked her house and bound herself with duct tape before calling police to report a robbery, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Lawton Bradham, 54, was found bound and shot in the back of the head inside his home located at 4644 Teresa Road Monday. Bradham's wife, Bernadette, was also found by a family member tied up in the house near her dead husband.

During questioning, Bernadette Bradham told investigators that three men broke into their home at about 3 a.m. and demanded money and drugs.

She said during the home invasion, Lawton Bradham was shot in the head.

Immediately after the shooting, detectives appeared to believe the story did not add up.

"I think this is sort of baffling to investigators because it appears both victims were cooperating and for an unknown reason they shot the husband execution-style and killed him," Orange County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Crystal Candy said.

According to Orange County sheriff's Detective Mark Hussey, when deputies brought Bradham in for further questioning Tuesday she admitted to killing her husband.

"During (an) interview, Mrs. Bradham made some admissions that were consistent with the evidence we collected and she has subsquently been charged with first-degree murder with a firearm in the death of her husband," Hussey said.

After arguing with her husband, Bradham allegedly waited until he was asleep and shot him with a 9 mm handgun, according to the arrest affidavit.

She then allegedly discarded the weapon in nearby woods and returned home, pried open a back door to make it look like robbery and then used duct tape to bind her hands and feet, the affidavit.

Bradham told police she did not remember how many times she shot her husband, but detectives found six empty cartridges, the affidavit said.

Bradham is being held at Orange County Jail without bond.

It was not immediately known if Bradham was represented by an attorney.
