7-year-old girl hit by car while walking to bus
Girl is expected to recover
A 7-year-old girl crossing the street to get to the bus was hit by a car Wednesday morning.
The driver, Glenn McCarthy, 45, was heading eastbound on Johnson Avenue when he violated the school bus's stop signal arm and flashing lights. He then hit 7-year-old Vanessa Perez who was across the two-lane street to get to the bus, according to the Polk County Sheriff's office.
Perez was propelled seven feet in the air and landed in the roadway. The victim was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando where she is in stable condition and is expected to recover.
McCarthy was arrested and charged with reckless driving and was transported to the Polk County Jail.
