A new rental car option for motorists from the Volkswagen company does not run on gas but is instead powered by vegetable oil.
Volkswagen introduced the Bio-Beetle car that can run on bio-diesel -- which is made of filtered vegetable oil, according to the report.
The report said filling the vehicle up with bio-diesel will cost motorists about $1 more per gallon than regular unleaded gasoline.
The bio-diesel costs $3.45 a gallon, but the cars get between 40 and 80 miles per gallon, an official said.
"Its just the best available fuel there is in my opinion," Bio-Beetle Eco Rental Cars representative Shaun Stenshol said. "It can be part of our long-term strategy as a country. We need to move away from fossil fuels and focus on sustainable fuels."
People interested in trying out one of the new bio-diesel Beetles can rent one through Bio-Beetle Eco Rental Cars for $199 a week. A location opened near Los Angeles International Airport.
