A family in Brevard County, Fla., has launched a campaign to find the person who used their pet cat as "target practice" and shot it six times as it lounged in their yard, according to a Local 6 News report.

The owner of the 4-year-old cat, Mushki, said she found her pet cat shot several times at her Malabar, Fla., home located near Hall Road.

Lynne Gradus said she became outraged after seeing the pellet holes covering the cat's body.

"This was target practice -- point blank target practice," Gradus said. "There were three (pellets) on one side, two on the other and one on his stomach. So, this was not one shot. This was a person who enjoyed shooting a little helpless pet."

  • This was a person who enjoyed shooting a little helpless pet, owner Lynne Gradus said.

X-rays Thursday revealed six pellets still lodged inside the cat.

Veterinarians said it would be more of a risk to remove the pellets so they are just leaving them inside the cat, Local 6 reporter Donald Forbes said.

The family is circulating fliers warning people about the shooting and asking for help in finding the shooter.

The fliers say; "Someone in Malabar is shooting domestic pets. Ours was shot yesterday near Hall Road. The sheriff has been notified and extra patrols are now being used."

Anyone with information concerning the shooting is urged to call Malabar police.
