Crimeline Returns $100,000 Of Reward Money In Kesse Case
After Kesse, 24, vanished in January, an anonymous donor upped reward money in the case to $115,000.However, there was a behind-the-scenes conflict between the anonymous donor and Crimeline, Local 6 reporter Louis Bolden said. The controversy was in the condition to collect the reward, Bolden said. The donor has reportedly said from the time the donation was made that the money was to only to be paid if Kesse is returned home safely, the report said. But the money was turned over to Crimeline and the organization offers rewards for information leading to arrests -- even if the person is not returned. "The donor tells Local 6 that if Crimeline does not want to play by his rules, he is taking his money back," Local 6 reporter Louis Bolden said.Wednesday, Crimeline returned the donor's money."Crimeline's business is to resolve cases," Crimeline spokeswoman Barbara Bergin said. "So, having that little conflict, we just determined it was best to give back the $100,000 and take the reward back down to $15,000."Kesse's family said the focus should remain on a person of interest currently being sought in the case."It is not about the reward money," father Drew Kesse said. "It is not about Web sites. It is about finding our daughter."The $115,000 reward money listing remains on about 2 million fliers in Central Florida."Because that reward amount is plastered on so many fliers, officials at Crimeline tell us that every time someone calls in and says they have information about Jennifer Kesse, the first thing they tell them is that the reward is $15,000."Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
