"He was trying to pass a bogus $100 bill to the clerk. He was trying to buy condoms and cologne," said Yvonne Martinez, spokesman for the Palm Bay Police Department."The clerk took a close look at the bill and suspected it was fake," Martinez said. "She stalled him while she called us."Police officers soon arrived and questioned Smith."He told them that he knew it was fake and that he had gotten it from an unknown man," Martinez said, adding that police did not have any direct evidence that Smith produced the bill.Smith was arrested and taken to the Brevard County Jail in Sharpes. He was being held on a $1,000 bond. The case has also been referred to the U.S. Secret Service, which routinely handles cases involving counterfeit bills.
