POSTED: Tuesday, March 28, 2006
UPDATED: 7:31 am EST March 28,2006

A 92-year-old man with vision problems in Grand Lake, Colo., was critically injured when he accidentally walked into a moose, according to a report.

"He walked right into the moose and I'm sure he didn't see the moose till it was too late," Heckert's son, Chuck, said.

Louis Heckert, who apparently suffers from macular degeneration, was walking to church Sunday when he crossed paths with a bull moose and walked into it.

"He walked right into the moose and I'm sure he didn't see the moose till it was too late," Heckert's son, Chuck, said.

Witnesses said the moose head-butted Heckert to the ground and continued to attack.

A game warden found the moose and destroyed it, according to the report.

The warden said the moose was suffering from rib and spine injuries and thinks the animal may have been previously stuck by a car.

Heckert's family members called the incident a freak accident.

"It's tough but there isn't any other guy as tough as Louis Heckert," Chuck Heckert said.
