ORLANDO, Fla. -- A chemical fire at a facility that deals with highly toxic and hazardous materials forced officials to close a road near Orlando International Airport early Wednesday, according to Local 6 News.

Flames and thick black smoke were reported at the Premafix building located at 10100 Rocket Boulevard at about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Overhead sprinklers in the building were able to contain most of the flames, but the smoke posed a hazard.

Fire crews outside of the building were seen wearing air packs, Local 6 News reported.

The chemicals that burned included calcium hydrochloride, which is basically bleach used in swimming pools.

No one was injured in the fire.

"The question now is the hazardous material melted and is giving off vapors and reacting to the water until we could shut the sprinkler system down," Orange County fire Chief Michael Brandt said. "Now, it is a matter of clean up."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

"At first glance the fire did look suspicious because it happened at a time when no one was supposed to be in the building," Local 6 reporter Jessica Sanchez said. "But, we talked to the general manager of Permafix earlier this morning and he said it could be the result of a chemical reaction."

Rocket Boulevard was expected to be reopened to traffic at about 7:00 a.m.
