Rangers Investigate Shark Attack Rumors
Boy Remains In Critical Condition
Published reports say that the National Park
Service is re-interviewing witnesses to the shark attack that
nearly killed 8-year-old Jessie Arbogast three weeks ago.
The
Pensacola News-Journal says that rangers are looking into rumors
that the boy's uncle was reeling in the bull shark when it ripped
off the boy's arm and part of his leg.
Arbogast remains in serious
condition at Sacred Heart Children's Hospital in Pensacola.
The uncle, Vance Flosenzier, says that he doesn't even fish. He
wrestled the shark to shore, and Jessie's arm was retrieved from
the predator's jaws. Doctors reattached it after 11 hours of
surgery.
Doctors say that Jessie remains in a light coma. They say that his vital
signs are stable and he continues to show slight neurological
improvements daily.
Meanwhile, a state lawmaker said he's working on legislation to
regulate if not ban shark feeding off Florida's coast.
St.
Petersburg legislator Charlie Justice says he's working with the
Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission on the issue.
