PORT ORANGE, Fla. - Port Orange police released the 911 calls in the drive-by shooting, which police are investigating as a hate crime.
Kanwaljit Singh was driving home from the convenience store he owns. His 13-year-old son was in the passenger seat as they drove across the Dunlawton Avenue bridge Saturday just before midnight. Police say a truck pulled up and opened fire on the family.
Singh was shot twice. He son was not injured.
In the 911 calls released on Wednesday, the 13-year-old son describes the shooting.
"You were driving on Dunlawton and someone started shooting at your car?" the dispatcher said.
"Yes, we were on the bridge and they just started shooting at our car ma'am," the teen said.
The dispatcher was on the phone with the teen for more than a minute before realizing the teen's father was shot.
OPERATOR: OK. Just stay on the phone with me I need to know where he was shot.
Caller: Excuse me?
OPERATOR: Where was he hit with the bullet?
Caller: "yes he cant walk."
OPERATOR: "ok was he hit in the leg?"
Caller: Yes, the leg, ma'am please."
OPERATOR: OK now listen. You're not listening to me. I told you along the way you've got to stop talking. Get a clean dry cloth. Whatever it is a shirt or something and apply pressure to his leg."
Police released the photos of the truck on Tuesday that they believe was involved in the shooting, described as a dark, late 80s to early 90s Ford F-150.
