ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Officials are investigating after a misrouted 911 call left a man suffering an apparent heart attack waiting for almost 15 minutes.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that Ormond Beach Commissioner Bill Partington is raising questions about the fatal Sept. 4 incident.
David Cromartie says he called 911 after his friend collapsed on a racquetball court. Several minutes into the call, Cromartie's frustration grew as he waited for help. A dispatcher told him crews were having trouble finding them. The friend died and Cromartie says he's not sure a more timely response would have save him.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office took over 911 operations about two years ago. They're looking into the matter and working with Ormond Beach officials to make sure similar mix-ups don't happen again.
