The U.S. Coast Guard is searching an area between Cape Canaveral, Fla., and the Bahamas for a 21-year-old man who mysteriously vanished from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Local 6 News has learned.

  • Daniel DiPiero.

Officials said Daniel DiPiero of Ohio was last seen Monday on board the Mariner of the Seas ship.

DiPiero told travel companions that he was going to his room to go to bed.

The following day, when it was discovered that he did not sleep in his cabin, authorities were notified, Local 6 reporter Donald Forbes said.

Investigators said DiPiero and a group left Port Canaveral Sunday night on a 7-day cruise to the Caribbean.

Several onboard announcements and searches were carried out Monday without success, according to a Royal Caribbean statement.

Royal Caribbean notified the U.S. and Bahamian Coast Guards, the FBI and the young man’s family, according to a statement.

Local 6 News reported that the man's mother was traveling to the Bahamas to meet with authorities.
