Police in Orlando, Fla., continued searching Wednesday night for the person who shot and killed a 46-year-old woman in an apparent random attack in the MetroWest area.
Investigators said neighbors heard a woman yelling and then gunshots in the parking lot of the Copper Terrace apartments on Kirkman Road in MetroWest just after 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
Police said they Deborah Culin had just stepped off a bus and was heading home in the MetroWest area when the gunman attacked her.
Culin's body was found a short time later.
Investigators said they now believe the attack was a robbery attempt.
"It's absolutely senseless," Orlando police Lt. Brian Gilliam said. "How do you make sense of this. (She's) walking home, probably just thinking of getting home, getting something to eat, and the next thing you know she's got a gun in her face and then is shot. How do you make sense of that? It's upsetting."
Police have very few leads in the case other than a description of a tall, black man seen running from the scene.
Culin's family made a plea for witnesses to come forward.
"If you have any information regarding this, please come forward," the victim's daughter, Celeste Culin, said. "I'm only 16 years old. How would you feel if you lost your mother, and what would you do? Please, please just come forward."
The crime happened in the same area as two other recent violent crimes, including a homicide, the report said.
Anyone with information concerning this crime is urged to call Crimeline at (800) 423-TIPS.
