The commander of a seven-member crew who will ride space shuttle Discovery into space said he is confident that NASA will be able to launch as planned on July 1 or within a few days of the date.
"I don't know of anything out there right now -- there are a few controversial issues that could push it a couple of days -- but I don't know of anything out there that would preclude a July 1 launch," Cmdr. Steve Lindsey said.
Lindsey and the shuttle crew were at the Kennedy Space Center Wednesday for terminal countdown training.
The exercise enables engineers and astronauts to run down the steps for the actual launch, Local 6 News reported.
The astronauts are scheduled to spend the next two days at Cape Canaveral and then return to Houston and be back in two weeks for the planned launch on July 1.
Tropical Storm Alberto forced a delay in crew plans to fly in to the NASA spaceport on Monday.
