An undercover sting in Orlando, Fla., led to the arrest of five carloads of people for allegedly firing high-powered rifles into the sky for fun, according to a Local 6 News report.

Officers stopped the group of people in a parking lot located on Colonial Drive and John Young Parkway Monday night.

"The crew that gathers here are gun happy, according to police," Local 6 reporter Samantha Knapp said. "In fact, they bring high-powered guns to the area and fired them into the air."

Officers arrested several people after they were allegedly caught in the act of firing the weapons.

Ammunition and weapons were recovered from several vehicles stopped in the sting. Several of the firearms were stolen, police said.

"The efforts of everybody who worked on this -- and we were out there for several hours -- has just made the city of Orlando a safer place and taken some very high-powered weapons off the streets, along with some individuals who are shooting freely," Orlando police Officer Laura Houston said.

Investigators are trying to determine if any of the confiscated guns is linked to unsolved homicides in the city.

"This was considered a very successful night for the Orlando Police Department and they tell us you can expect stings like this in the future," Knapp said.
