A woman in Melbourne, Fla., traveling in rush-hour traffic was forced to abandon her car when she noticed a large opossum loose in the vehicle, according to a report.
The woman was driving on the Pineda Causeway from the beachside to work in her convertible Chrysler Sebring Monday at about 9 a.m. when she spotted the opossum, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.
"She was driving down the road and it came out from the back of the seat," said Deputy Todd Howard of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. "She got nervous and pulled the car over. When she got out she left her door open and it must have gotten out then. She told us she had her garage door open last night and it probably just crawled in."
Deputies searched the car with mirrors and with flashlights but found nothing, according to the report.
No report was taken and the woman, believed to be in her 40s, was allowed to head on to work.
"She seemed fine," Howard said.
Deputies believe the possum just probably crept away somewhere near the northbound exit ramp of U.S. 1 where the woman's car had stopped.
