Pipe Bombs, Chemicals Found Inside Homes
SLIDESHOW: Map Of Scenes
Authorities arrested Victor Ramirez, 18, and charged him with possessing destructive devices after four pipe bombs were found at his home located on Blazed Tree Court in Orange County.Ramirez allegedly got the pipe bombs from a teenage co-worker Steven Demeer, who lived on Marlboro Street.Detectives said the teens' employer overheard Ramirez and Demeer talking about the pipe bombs and contacted authorities. The bomb squad went to the Williamsburg neighborhood, near SeaWorld and found the devices at Ramirez's home, the report said."According to investigators, the bombs were small but powerful, capable of projecting deadly fragments of shrapnel," Local 6 reporter Mike DeForest said."If they would have gone off in a somebody's presence, not only do you have to worry about the blast pressure but you have to worry about the fragment hitting you and cutting through your flesh and killing you," Bomb squad Det. Kelly Boaz said.Local 6 News showed video of several large holes were blown into the ground where the bomb squad rendered the devices safe.Ramirez's brother told Local 6 News that his sibling probably thought the pipe bombs were just firecrackers."Even if it was just for fun, Ramirez faces up to five years in prison," DeForest said. The bomb squad also raided the home of the alleged bomb creator, Steven Demeer and allegedly found bomb-making materials and chemicals.Deputies said Demeer had apparently been making the devices for some time and for fun."We want to stress that there is nothing to suggest that this is a part of a terrorist plot or a terrorist incident or any terrorist incident at all," Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons said. "What this boils down to is a guy who likes to play with large and very, very dangerous fireworks."A fire department official said they believe Demeer illegally purchased chemicals on the Internet.Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
