ORLANDO, Fla. -

Just in time for summer vacation, television icon Bob Barker hopes to bring down one of Orlando's biggest tourist attractions.

VIDEO:

The former host of "The Price Is Right" has long been an animal rights advocate and now has teamed up with PETA to oppose SeaWorld, urging people to stay away from the park.

"Many have died prematurely at SeaWorld after swimming in endless circles and performing dumb tricks day in and day out," Barker says in the commercial spot.

"He's practically a part of most of our families and such a great voice of Americana and such a great voice for the animals," said Bryan Wilson, a PETA representative.

Wilson said timing is everything and hopes the message hopes to capitalize on the park's rough year after trainer Dawn Branchaeu was dragged underwater and killed by a killer whale.

For tourists, Barker is a big name, but so is SeaWorld.

"I don't think that's going to sway anyone," said Rebecca Adams, who is visiting from San Diego. "They are very kind to the animals and that's ridiculous."

Experts say Barker's opinion my not be as influential as PETA may hope.

"Anybody who is an extreme advocate is not that believable," said tourism expert Abe Pizam. "I think that those people who recognize him and know of his position will not go to the park to begin with. They are zealots, and zealots follow their conscience."

In a statement, a SeaWorld spokesman called PETA an "extremist organization" and said, "The public would be better served if Mr. Barker and PETA would focus their energy on animals truly in need."

Days ago, the park announced attendance was rebounding.
