Brevard County sheriff’s deputies and divers searching the Indian River on Tuesday located the body of a man in who had last been seen walking away from a parked car.
Two people reported to authorities on Monday that the man – believed to be barefoot in jeans and a shirt – was walking in the direction of U.S. 1 after abandoning his father’s red Nissan.
Officials began searching for the man as a precaution but later performed a full-scale search.
The sheriff’s helicopter, several boats and members of the dive team were called out to assist with the search along the first bridge of the Pineda Causeway just east of the Indian River before halting the search Monday night.
The Indian River is located east of U.S. 1 and west of Merritt Island.
No other details, including the man's name, have been released.
