Bomb squad investigates after bank robbers claim to have bomb, police say
Sanford police say culprits crashed vehicle after robbery
Two men have been taken into custody after police say they robbed a Sanford bank through its drive-thru, said they had a bomb and then crashed their vehicle.
The incident happened after 3 p.m. Friday at the Regions Bank, located at 4477 West State Road 46 in Sanford.
Authorities said upon arrival, it was revealed that two men, later identified by Sanford police as Robert Shaw and Matthew Cosimini, were inside a green colored pickup truck.
Both of the men entered the drive-thru of the bank, where police said a note was passed to the teller demanding an unknown amount of money.
When the suspects were in the drive-thru, they implied that they had a bomb, said police. A bomb squad was called to the bank as a precaution to ensure there wasn't an actual bomb in the vehicle.
Afterwards, Shaw and Cosimini fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. Once police were notified, they arrived and were able to apprehend the suspects.
Shaw and Cosimini were taken into custody without further incident.
