Sanford Man Issued Citation For Careless Driving

SANFORD, Fla. -

A 14-year-old boy standing at a bus stop was struck by a car Friday morning in Sanford, according to authorities.

The crash happened just before 6:30 a.m. on Sterling Pine Street near Lake Mary Boulevard.

The boy suffered a possible broken leg and was taken to a hospital, Sanford police said.

According to police, a green 1997 Ford driven by Robert V. Dubois, 22, of Sanford, made a U-turn at the intersection of Sterling Pine Street and Groveview Way and hit the boy.

Dubois said he didn't see the boy because of dew that formed on the car's windshield and windows, according to police.

Dubois was issued a traffic citation for careless driving.

At least a 12 students have been struck by vehicles in Central Florida since the 2011-12 school year began.
