Boy, 3, honored for helping unconscious mother
Deputies say boy rewarded for remembering what to do in an emergency
Joseph Hutcheson knows how to call his mother's best friend. That knowledge helped the 3-year-old help his mother following a frightening accident.
On Tuesday, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office honored Joseph for his actions.
Last September, Joesph's mother fell from a ladder while changing a light bulb. According to deputies, Cheyenne Donaldson hit her head on a table and fell onto the family's tile floor, leaving her unconscious.
Joseph, who was 2-years-old at the time, picked up the phone and called his mom's best friend and told her about the accident.
Donaldson's friend Lisa Brittle rushed to the home on Hazelnut Street in Daytona and called for help.
Donaldson was taken to the hospital to be treated. She has since recovered from her injuries.
At a ceremony Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office presented Joseph with a plaque recognizing his actions.
"He has really been doing a great job being his Mom's guardian angel," Flagler County Sheriff Donald Fleming said.
