Bright House Networks on Thursday launched more than 2,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the state, including many in Central Florida, that will bring free Internet access to customers.

Non-Bright House customers also will be able to access the hot spots for a fee, based on hourly, daily or weekly usage.

People using the service can access data on a personal computer, smart phone, tablet or other device and use Wi-Fi instead of their cellular minutes.

"We're trying to save our customers money, time and energy," Bright House spokesman Donald Forbes said.  "Plus, Wi-Fi is so much faster and such a better connection."

Customers who subscribe to the company’s Internet service and own wireless devices can sign in to any of the available Wi-Fi hotspots around the using their Road Runner or My Services login and password, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.

Those who do not have a Bright House Networks account can purchase WiFi access using VISA, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover.

The cable provider will focus the hotspot rollout along the coasts and in high-density locations, area shopping centers, entertainment venues, sports arenas, parks and beaches.
