Healthy eating program promotes longer lives

ORLANDO, Fla. -

Food Network star Paula Deen talked to Floridian's Monday morning about how - and where - to eat healthy.

Deen paired up with Florida Hospital to launch the community-wide "Cooking to a Healthy 100,"a program that focuses on providing people with the tools to live longer and healthier lives.

"It's my hope to make people more aware about going to their doctor," Deen said.

At her cooking demonstration Monday morning, the celebrity chef showed the audience some healthy recipes from her new book "Diabetes in a New Light," shared her experience with type 2 diabetes, and introduced 16 local restaurants that have "Healthy 100" approved meals, the Orlando Business Journal reports.

In order for a meal to be approved, it had to meet a criteria of less than 35 percent of fat, no trans fat, less than 700 milligrams of sodium, be high in fiber and low in sugar.

• Yogurtiamo
