A central Florida vice mayor has died during an accident outside his home. Dunnellon Vice Mayor Fred Stark was 75.
Stark's son-in-law, Ocala Fire Rescue Capt. Robert Altman, says Stark was working on some wiring in an electrical outlet outside his home Monday.
Altman tells the Ocala Star-Banner that Stark's wife found him outside with several electrical tools by his body. Stark was pronounced dead at a hospital. A cause of death has not been determined.
Stark was born in Staten Island, N.Y. He was a New York City firefighter from 1958 to 1973. He also served as a Marine.
He retired in 1993 from the Florida State Fire College in Ocala. He became a Dunnellon city councilman in 2006 and was serving his third term as vice mayor.
