ORLANDO, Fla. -

A convicted kidnapper who Jose Baez calls a potential witness has stepped forward to say he has no connection to the Casey Anthony case.

Vasco Thompson appeared outside the Orange County Courthouse for a news conference with his attorney before appearing with Nancy Grace Friday night on her TV show.

Thompson was named a witness by the defense earlier this week because they said his phone number showed up on George Anthony's cell phone records, a day before Cindy Anthony reported Caylee missing.

However, Thompson says he didn't have that phone number at that time.

Thompson was convicted on kidnapping charges in 1987 and served about 10 years in prison.

In the meantime, the Orlando based Florida Civil Rights Association issued a statement blasting the defense.

"Jose Baez committed the oldest and most infamous use of racial stereotyping by setting the stage to claim 'the black guy did it' in the Casey Anthony trial," the statement read.

It's unclear when or if Thompson will be called as a witness.
