DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -

The Daytona Beach Police Department and Daytona Beach Fire Department could be forced to cut millions of dollars from their budgets.

The move could also mean slashing jobs and cutting back on some services.

According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, city leaders say they are dealing with a big budget problem.

To deal with it, they have asked both agencies to cut their budgets by 10 percent.

That means the police department must cut more than $3 million and implement a hiring freeze that impacts 15 positions.

The paper also reports that the city has asked the fire department to slash $1 million from its budget and cut 12 positions.

City leaders also say another idea to cut costs is for firefighters to no longer handle medical calls.
