Daytona Beach police Chief Mike Chitwood had to make a trip to the hospital after a suspect resisted arrest and bit him.
Police said Chitwood was on Main Street during bike week when a man approached him and started to tell the chief about his rights.
The man, later identified as 43-year-old Michael Dangelo was attempting to arrest Chitwood, also telling him he could kill the chief, said police.
When Chitwood turned to walk away, police said Dangelo spit on his back.
Chitwood turned back around to arrest Dangelo, who police said engaged the chief in a fight.
Authorities said Dangelo bit Chitwood's finger and when the chief brought him to the ground, he hit his head on a parked motorcycle.
Police said Chitwood was taken to Halifax Medical Center for the bite, and was treated and later released.
Dangelo was booked into the Volusia County Jail for assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
