Several students were rescued from elevators after a blown transformer ignited a brush fire near a Daytona Beach high school Wednesday afternoon.

The fire department reports that the transformer, which services power to Mainland High School, blew just before 2:30 p.m. Several students were stuck in the elevators.

School officials said the students are all safe and no medical conditions were reported. 

Students tell Local 6 there are four elevators on the campus and that you need a key to be on the elevator, as the elevator is not for public use.

The school wouldn't comment further on its elevator policies.

The 15-foot-by-20-foot brush fire has been extinguished, and fire officials say they are mopping up an area around the transformer to prevent the fire from reigniting.
