Several homes were evacuated Tuesday morning in Volusia County because of a gas leak.
Deputies said a private company was drilling holes for AT&T lines near Deltona Boulevard and East Normandy Road when the 6-inch gas line for Florida Public Utilities was struck.
Eight homes were evacuated as a precaution, and the intersection of Deltona Boulevard and East Normandy was closed.
Crews continued to repair the gas line, but residents were allowed to re-enter their homes Tuesday afternoon.
