Deputies: Couple staged horrifying armed robbery
Caught on video: Man wearing gas mask points gun at clerk
Clerk confessed to planning heist
Marion County deputies said a boyfriend and girlfriend planned a horrifying armed robbery that was an inside job.
The modern-day Bonnie and Clyde almost got away with the crime, but text messaging helped investigators piece together the heist.
Store surveillance video taken at the Shell gas station at 1741 S. Pine Ave. in Ocala shows store clerk, Danielle Wright, appearing to pack up for the night.
Suddenly, a man with a gas mask appears behind the counter and points a gun at her head. She drops to the ground and he motions for money. He immediately grabs a cigar box under the counter with $7,000 inside, then she opens the register and he drops the money into a garbage bag. When the suspect runs off, Wright calls 911.
Fellow clerks who have seen the video and said the whole ordeal seems way too calm.
"How would I behave? Definitely a little more hectic," said Randy Settle. "To me, it looked like a set up."
It took investigators months to piece together the crime, but when confronted, Wright came clean. She said she and her boyfriend, Vincent Foster, staged the robbery after deputies found text messages between the two just before the robbery. In the following text messages, the pair goes back and forth making sure the coast was clear.
"How much do you need baby"
"bout four hundred"
"ok"
"whats up"
"i see 2 cars"
"wait till they leave"
"ok"
"how do it look"
"good"
Despite his girlfriend's admission to deputies, Foster still denies being a part of the crime. The Sheriff's Office said Wright knows she's going to be arrested and it could happen at any time.
