Deputies: Driver shoots motorist after altercation
Shooter charged with aggravated child abuse, discharging firearm into vehicle
Orlando police have charged a driver with two felonies after they say he shot at another motorist on Wednesday afternoon in east Orange County.
Carlos Gaston, 29, has been charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and aggravated child abuse in the shooting, which occurred near Semoran Boulevard and Lake Underhill Road.
Police said Gaston and the victim, Wilmer Torres-Orengo, 34, were driving on southbound Semoran Boulevard when they got into an altercation for an unknown reason, resulting in Gaston getting out of a vehicle and shooting Torres-Orengo.
Torres-Orengo was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the arm. He told deputies he wouldn't press charges against Gaston. He is being charged with aggravated child abuse because of a 2-year-old girl being in Gaston's car.
Local 6 news helicopter Sky 6 flew over the State Road 408 interchange where authorities were parked in the median, with traffic backed up on Semoran Boulevard for more than a mile.
