ORLANDO, Fla. -

A clerk at an Orange County gas station was shot early Tuesday after he refused to give cash to two masked gunmen, according to deputies.

Orange County sheriff's deputies say Christian Alfaro, 22, and Wesley Quesada, 20, entered the Sunoco on South Orange Blossom Trail near the Florida Mall around 2:45 a.m.

According to the report, Alfaro then demanded cash from the clerk, who refused and laid down on the floor, telling the suspects to take the money. Deputies say as a result, the men shot the worker at least one time in the torso for not complying.  Deputies said the clerk was in critical but stable condition.

According to deputies, a customer at the gas station was able to give authorities a description of the getaway vehicle, along with license plate information.

Deputies spotted the vehicle a short time later on Sand Lake Boulevard and followed it on Interstate 4 until they reached the Disney area, where they pulled the vehicle over.

"We knew they were armed, so if there was a shootout, our plan was to do it in a safe area where there was no one in the background that could get hurt and we could safely take care of business, " said Orange County sheriff's Lt. Paul Hopkins.

Both men face multiple charges.
