DELTONA, Fla. -

A Deltona U.S. Army veteran is on the run, accused of beating his estranged wife several times in the head with a dumbbell.

Volusia County sheriff's detectives are looking for Gary Jones, 35. He was last seen Saturday afternoon driving away from his home on Courtland Boulevard where the attack occurred.

Tyronia Jones, 25, and her mother went to the home to take food to the couple's children spending the week with their father, according to the incident report. Tyronia Jones' mother, who was in the front room playing with her grandchildren heard her screams and went to rescue her daughter, according to the report.

Gary Jones ran past her and left in his  white, four-door Cadillac with a tag number of DVO638D.

Gary Jones is charged with aggravated battery and false imprisonment.
