TAMPA, Fla. -

An alert Hillsborough County deputy foiled a suspect's attempt at using a fake name after being arrested on petty theft charges.

Authorities say the deputy recognized 23-year-old Arturo Zertuche from a Crime Stoppers website while he was being booked into jail Monday.

Turns out, Zertuche was wanted on attempted murder charges.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that Zertuche is accused of pointing a gun at a man's head during a 2009 fight.

The victim says Zertuche shot him in the back as he tried to get away.

Zertuche is in jail on multiple charges including two counts of first-degree attempted murder.
