Brevard deputy shoots dog while arresting sex offender

COCOA, Fla. -

A Brevard County deputy trying to arrest a wanted sex offender at a homeless camp shot and killed a charging pit bull, authorities said.

The shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon off Clearlake Road.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the deputy was attempting to make an arrest when the pit bull charged at his K-9 partner.

The deputy fired shots at the pit bull, killing it.

The K-9 suffered minor injuries but will be OK, deputies said.

The sex offender was arrested on a probation violation charge, officials said.
