ORLANDO, Fla. -

Developers are hoping the soon-to-be-renovated Lake Eola fountain will draw enough people to fill a new hotel next to the iconic lake.

Tim Glendening walks around the downtown Orlando landmark every day. He said he thinks a new downtown hotel at the corner of Rosalind Avenue and Washington Street is past due.

"Not many hotels down here. I think that's certainly an indication that we need it. We have so many attractions downtown. Eola is such a draw," Glendening said.

The $20 million project would be the first new hotel built downtown in the past 10 years, but others are not as optimistic about the 155-room Cambria Suites.

"I personally wouldn't like anymore hotels put up, because I like the nature kept around Lake Eola. I understand it's a city, but it's bad enough we're covered in buildings," an Orlando mom said.

Hotel developers are banking on the view of the lake to fill the rooms -- a view that would highlight the Disney Amphitheater and the newly reconstructed fountain at Lake Eola.

Reconstruction of the fountain will save the city hundreds of thousands of dollars in electric costs by using new, more efficient, LED lights.
