A dog belonging to a Brevard County Animal Services employee who was struck by a car and critically injured returned home two days after the crash, officials said.
Kim Barlet remained in critical condition Tuesday at Holmes Regional Medical Center, two days after she was struck by a car while off-duty as she walked her dog on Tropical Trail on Merritt Island.
Coworkers said Barlet, has worked with the county since 2010, was hit while walking Ino, a former shelter dog Barlet adopted and helped rehabilitate.
Ino disappeared after the Sunday evening crash, prompting an overnight search on Merritt Island that involved at least 15 people.
"Ino was found Tuesday morning sitting on Kim's back porch, waiting for its breakfast," said Ron Brown, Animal Services captain of enforcement. "We are all pulling for Kim. She's part of our family."
