Driver flees from trooper, crashes car
FHP calls off Orange County pursuit before crash
Raw video: Driver crashes after fleeing trooper
A driver sped away from a traffic stop in Lake County before he crashed his car in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A trooper tried to stop the driver of a BMW convertible for speeding on State Road 50 near the Orange/Lake County line around 2:15 a.m. Thursday, according to the FHP.
Troopers said the driver did not stop, but instead sped away eastbound on State Road 50.
The trooper initiated a pursuit but was not able to keep up with the fleeing car, according to FHP. Troopers said FHP policy states that troopers must stop at all red lights and stop signs when engaged in an active pursuit.
The convertible was spotted a short time later by Ocoee police at the intersection of Good Homes Road and Old Winter Garden Road, according to the FHP.
The driver sped off northbound on Good Homes Road without being pursued, according to FHP.
Troopers said the driver lost control just north of State Road 50 and crashed into a palm tree, snapping it in half.
The driver was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He faces several charges, according to FHP.
