An apparent drug-smuggling boat that capsized off Jacksonville earlier this month floated onto a sandbar near Beverly Beach.
The boat came ashore Sunday afternoon with about 150 pounds of marijuana aboard, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
Flagler County sheriff’s deputies responded to 2995 N. State Road A1A around 4:11 p.m. in response to a report of a capsized boat offshore with marijuana bails floating to shore.
Deputies contacted the Coast Guard and were informed that the boat had capsized Sept. 2 off Jacksonville. The boat had been checked by the Coast Guard who determined no one was on board.
The boat has no markings or registration.
The 30-foot, twin engine boat apparently broke free and drifted south where it lodged on a sandbar about 50-feet from shore near Beverly Beach Camptown.
The marijuana bails began washing ashore Sunday afternoon and were retrieved by deputies.
The Florida Fish and Wildife Conservation Commisson was contacted regarding the boat.
