EDGEWATER, Fla. -

The Edgewater City Manager has placed Police Chief Dave Arcieri on paid administrative leave on Thursday, but the reason why remains a mystery.

Arcieri has been with the department for 18 years with no disciplinary action in his file, but city officials wouldn't comment to Local 6 on why he was abruptly placed on leave by City Manager Tracey Barlow.

"As we discussed earlier, effective this morning Police Chief Arcieri was placed on paid administrative leave until further notice," Barlow told Local 6 after initially declining to comment. "As we discussed earlier for the integrity of the process and if there's any other additional inquiry or subsequently any other investigation I can not and will not disclose that."

Arcieri took over as chief in August 2011 after the former chief retired. Local 6 went to Arcieri's home, but he wasn't available to comment.

Residents tell Local 6 they want answers.

"Give it up. Tell us what's going on," said Michael Aleksich.

Barlow says he can't provide the information of the investigation.

"The fact of the matter is for the integrity of the process ... for the integrity of the process, I can not and will not disclose that," Barlow said.

Barlow said for the time being, he is responsible for the operation of the Edgewater Police Department.

"I can assure you there's no public safety concerns for the community of Edgewater," he said.
