ST. CLOUD, Fla. -

An appeals court ruling has caused a central Florida judge to order an elderly man released from jail, two years after he confessed to the 1979 murder of a minister's wife.

The ruling came late Thursday from the 5th District Court of Appeal.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Circuit Judge Scott Polodna ordered jail officials to release Steve Bronson, Jr. from the Osceola County Jail.

Bronson is a stroke victim with progressive brain damage.

Corrections chief Sherry Johnson told the newspaper they planned to ask a fire rescue crew to take Bronson to a local hospital.

Bronson was 62 when he admitted to the brutal killing of Norma Page, a 28-year-old mother of two young children.

DNA evidence was used to solve the cold case.
