Ex-teacher accused of traveling to meet 13-year-old for sex, cops say
Deputies say former Latin teacher at Trinity Prep sent inappropriate texts to girl
A former Latin teacher at Trinity Preparatory School was arrested after he was caught traveling to meet a 13-year-old girl for sex, according to Seminole County deputies.
Deputies arrested 49-year-old John Ferguson on Sunday for traveling with the intent to engage in sexual activity with what he believed to be a child.
Investigators with SCSO's Crimes Against Children Unit began investigating in November 2012 when the mother of the 13-year-old victim contacted deputies after learning of inappropriate text messages between her daughter and Ferguson.
An investigator pretended to be the victim and continued to talk with the Ferguson via text messages and emails for four months, according to the report. Ferguson asked to meet with the victim so she could spend the night at his house. On Saturday, he drove to the Target in Oviedo to meet the child and was taken into custody without incident.
Ferguson was booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility on charges of traveling to meet a minor for sex and use of computer to lure a child. Ferguson posted a $10,100 bond early Sunday morning and is no longer at the facility.
