FHP: School bus carrying students rear-ends car, causing chain-reaction crash
Adult special-needs student taken to hospital after Orange County wreck
A school bus carrying special-needs students was involved in a five-vehicle crash in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
One adult student and three drivers were injured in the crash, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. Monday on Hiawassee Road at State Road 408 near Pine Hills.
According to troopers, the bus driver, Janie Ruiz, 48, failed to stop as traffic ahead of her slowed, and she crashed into the rear of a Toyota. Ruiz was not injured, but the driver of the Toyota suffered minor injuries and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
In all, the chain-reaction crash damaged the bus and four other cars.
Ruiz was cited for careless driving.
Hiawassee Road was blocked in the area.
Earlier, another school bus, also carrying students, crashed nearby at Hiawassee Road and Oakmore Lane.
No students were injured in the crash, which occurred around 7:25 a.m., and the cause of the wreck is under investigation.
